Job Purpose
The Port Department Head has extensive experience of working within a consulting environment ideally on Port and Maritime Engineering projects. The person in this role is typically an accomplished team leader with the ability to support, mentor, and develop less experienced engineers with a demonstrable record of building and developing a team of Port and Maritime engineers, with experience of assisting engineers and guiding them towards becoming recognized industry experts. The Port Department Head also possess a sound understanding of technical Regulations, risk assessment process, and local and International Design standards. This person has proven business development and client relationship-building skills, will be able to lead technical input for bids and tenders. Finally, the person in this role must have experience of working within project teams and supervising team members, and the ability to work to deadlines, within budget, and to schedule.
Main Scope/Responsibilities
Manage, mentoring, build and develop a team of Port and Maritime engineers
Manage and co-ordinate projects from feasibility to detailed design and site supervision where required including the coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers
Oversee the development of conceptual designs
Development of projects control and monitoring of progress against programs
Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards and Codes of Practice and the approval of designs, assessments and calculations are in accordance with quality procedures
Proven business development capabilities, with an established track record in building and maintaining good working relationships with Clients and in winning consultancy work
Demonstrated experience in leading projects with varying scale and complexity
Education
Bac +5 or more
Curricula: Civil Engineering, Port and Maritime Engineering
