Job Purpose
The Principal Piping Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, reviewing drawings, providing calculations, and engineering analysis that supports large scale complex piping systems. Oversee a team of engineers and designers and provide leadership to drive piping design, integration, procurement, field engineering, and construction support for small, medium, and Large EPC & EPCM projects and through all project phases. Communicates effectively and successfully manage deadlines and costs.
Main Scope/Responsibilities
Business Development Support:
Assists business development activities by maintaining an up to date personal profile and resume database. Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors.
Technical Competency:
Ensures team member adherence to generally accepted piping engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Supports the standardization of piping specifications, installation drawings, and document templates.
Contributes and improve the understanding of local and global standards (Such as ASME, API, PIP...) to support technical excellence. Supports checking, peer reviews, and technical Audits.
Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross-functional knowledge of related workgroups, and enhance the ability to present piping work effectively.
Project Execution:
Participates in project execution strategy and planning for small, medium, and large EPC & EPCM projects and during all project phases. Assists the piping team to meet expectations, and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure project success. Supports the Project Management Team to take corrective actions against technical issues and risks, staffing requirements, scope changes, progress, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
Implements innovative solutions, technological advances, and methods to effectively manage out-of-sequence work.

Project Deliverables:
Prepares and maintains piping engineering deliverables such as piping material specifications, Valve datasheets, piping general specifications, and stress calculations. Review and interface with suppliers and contractor data to assure specifications and project requirements are met.
Can identify technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros & cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc. Uses existing procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective piping designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.
Procurement Support:
Prepares piping RFQ (Requisition For Quotation) packages, Prepares piping RFP (Requisition For Purchase) packages. Participates in face to face with bidders, conducts bid evaluations, completes inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and finalizes other certification activities. Reviews similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorize work done by direct reports.
Assists in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations, or new or better equipment purchase recommendations.
Site Support:
Provides technical support and guidance to the field team in areas of expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve piping and installation problems. Participates in constructability, operability & maintainability reviews, and incorporates requirements into engineering and design. Creates and maintains deliverables that support construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning. Provides on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turnover.
Department development:
Ensures the development of the technical knowledge of the engineers and designer teams. Assists piping engineers and designers in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations, or new or better equipment purchase recommendations. Communicates team resources, loading, and skill requirements to a direct supervisor or Discipline Manager. Ensures the project work is covered for vacation and unplanned absences. Mentors, trains and supports the delivery of training.
